Trails

I often want to find GPS routes of trails to run or hike, and search far and wide to acquire them…or just go out and make them myself.  This is a repository for the trails, and a comment here and there.  This is not intended to be a replacement for the formal race routes, where they exist.

Newlands-Sleepad-Contour-Diagonal route (~10 km)

This is my go-to evening trail run.  The profile is nearly perfect for pleasurable trail time:  A gentle uphill to wake you up, some level cruising on smooth forest trails, then a steep prolonged climb up steep trails and steps to the contour path.  From there it contours along a mix of everything from wooden boardwalks to rough rocky scree, with pristine mountain forest alternating with views over the city.  Finally emerging into the fynbos, a technical descent on narrow single-track through the heath merges into a broad gravel jeep track for a fast and furious descent to the finish,,,or just cruise and enjoy it.

Silvermine-Constantiaberg-Noordhoek Peak

This is almost certainly longer than 10 km, depending on which of the small paths across the peaks you take.  Anticipate some scrambling and lots of up and down, unless you divert along the jeep track up Noordhoek Peak after coming off Constantiaberg.
